The Resurrection of our Lord is by far the most important Christian
celebration of the year. If Christ did not rise again from the dead, he
would have just been another prophet, and Christianity would be a scam. Dying
for our sins is meaningless unless the person that suffered and died was God.
This would only be shown by His rising from the dead.
Christ died for our sins, and He rose again from the dead. I know my redeemer
still lives today.
Why not call it Easter? Everyone else does. One must first ask what does
Easter mean. I haven't heard one explanation yet that doesn't have a strong
pagan meaning. Passover, or maybe even Christian Passover would be a
better name. A good understanding of the Passover can help bring better
understanding to Christ's death
So why Easter? Possibly Satin's way of demeaning the heart of Christianity.
In any case, I do not use the word Easter in my devotion. And only use it on
this site when referring to the word itself.
I have modeled this devotion after the Jesse Tree devotion complete with ornaments
for the family to make together. I have three versions of the devotion.
The full devotion is a 47 day devotion which starts the first day of Lent. A scaled
down version has 13 devotions, Palm Sunday to the Resurrection and 5 Sunday's
prior. The shortest version is just the 8 days from Palm Sunday to the
resurrection.
Some denominations such as Catholic and Lutheran celebrate Lent. Lent is a
40-day period prior to the Resurrection, (not counting Sundays). Lent starts
with Ash Wednesday. Even if you don't observe Lent, this is a great way to
devote time to God's Word.
More to come.
