Christmas is not the most important Christian celebration. Could've fooled
the secular world though.
The birth of Jesus is only mentioned in two of the four gospe
ls, and very
little is said. Matthew is the only place you read about the wise men, and Luke
tells about the shepards and Elizabeth. There is more written about Jesus'
baptism, and very much about His final days in all four gospels. Let the Bible
be a guide as to the importance and significance of events.
Where do we get all these "facts" and traditions about Jesus birth?
Mainly from Christmas carols and pagan customs adopted by the church at various
times in history. Take the Christmas quiz to
see how much you really know.
The importance of this birth is to fulfill the prophecy of the messiah.
Celebrating birthdays itself is a pagan custom, so it was never intended to
celebrate the anniversary of Christ's birth. The actual date was not, and is
still not, important, we are the ones who chose to give a date to Christ's
birth. Some Christian denominations do not even celebrate Christmas.
To help
families keep Christ at the center of the season I am putting together kits and
information on a Jesse Tree devotion. Patterns and and a Jesse Tree guide will
be able to
be downloaded in a pdf format for free. Currently I have some of the ornaments
and devotions.
I will also have kits with a devotional
book and the material you need to make a Jesse Tree for sale.
The pdf file
should be ready soon, and I am working on finishing the kits.
